Three generations, seven acres, one way of growing.
Blue Hollow Farm has been family-run since 1962 — certified organic, hand-harvested and deliberately small.
Our Story
The farm that stayed small
He bought this hollow for the fog. Cool mornings and long afternoons make highbush blueberries ripen slowly, and slow fruit is sweet fruit. He planted two rows in 1962; we still harvest from those same bushes.
Every decade since, someone has offered to help us get bigger. We keep saying no. At seven acres we can walk every row before breakfast, taste as we go, and pick only what is ready that morning.
1962
Grandfather Ray plants the first two rows of highbush blueberries.
2004
USDA Organic certification after four years of transition.
2026
Third generation farming the same seven acres.
What We Stand For
Four values we farm by
Soil First
We feed the ground, not the plant. Healthy soil makes sweeter fruit.
Slow Growth
Seven acres, no expansion. Small enough to walk every row daily.
Closed Loop
Compost, mulch and prunings all return to the orchard floor.
Living Habitat
Wildflower borders and hedgerows keep pollinators on the farm year-round.
100% Organic
Organic isn't a label here — it's the whole method.
We transitioned the last conventional block in 2000 and have been fully certified since 2004. Records for every input, every row, every season are open to anyone who asks.
No synthetic sprays, ever
Pests are managed with hedgerow habitat, netting and hand-scouting. Nothing synthetic touches the fruit or the soil.
Compost-built beds
Beds are top-dressed each autumn with compost made from our own prunings, leaf litter and orchard mulch.
Hand-harvest only
Every berry is picked by hand at sunrise. No mechanical shakers, no ethylene, no cold-store ripening.
Water we can account for
Drip irrigation on soil-moisture sensors uses roughly 40% less water than overhead lines.
